Homeopathic Remedies

Created in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann, homeopathy is system of complementary or alternative medicine in which ailments are treated by minute doses of natural substances that, in larger amounts, would produce symptoms of the same condition.

Principle of Like-Cures-Like

Based on the fundamental principle of like cures like (similia similibus curentur), it suggests that a substance that causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people will cure similar symptoms in sick people. The practice has long been integrated into the healthcare systems of several European countries, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and Portugal, and the market is growing, particularly in the UK and the USA.

More and more frequently, homeopathic remedies are appearing in mass retail outlets to treat a wide range of long-term illnesses, such as asthma, allergies, dermatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome and mental health issues, as well as minor injuries, such as cuts, scrapes, strains or sprains. Typical ingredients include diluted doses of a substance of animal, vegetable or mineral origin, so they’re considered to be gentle and environmentally friendly medicines.
